The chapters cover the mouse, the dock, Finder windows, menus and shortcuts, using an application, saving and printing, getting connected to the internet, mail, web browsing and an introduction to some useful Mac features. This book is highly recommended for new Mac users.

Intermediate and advanced Mac users will get much more in-depth information from David Pogue’s new “Mac OS X Snow Leopard”, The Missing Manual”. Publisher O’Reilly describes the book as  follows: “For a company that promised to ‘put a pause on new features,’ Apple sure has been busy-there's barely a feature left untouched in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. There's more speed, more polish, more refinement-but still no manual. Fortunately, David Pogue is back, with the humor and expertise that have made this the #1 bestselling Mac book for eight years straight. This one witty, expert guide makes it all crystal clear.”

The 885-page manual covers everything from basics like using folders, windows and spotlight to the technologies of Mac OS X. Pogue is thorough in his coverage and his explanations they are easy to follow and well-illustrated, so that even someone relatively new to the Mac can follow. He discusses all of Mac’s free programs such as Safari, Mail and iPhoto as well as areas such as printing, sound and speech, networking and Time Machine. This is not a book to be read cover-to-cover but treated as a reference book for either trouble shooting or learning the both the basic and advanced features of your Mac’s programs and operations. An added plus for the book is that every single web address, practice file and piece of downloadable software mentioned in the book is available at www.missingmanual.com. This book is definitely recommenced for the serious Mac user.
